Dr. Gagan Mathur is a board-certified Transfusion Medicine/Blood Banking physician and serves as the Medical Director of Transfusion Service at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). Dr. Mathur holds the academic title of Associate Professor of Clinical Pathology at the Keck School of Medicine University of Southern California. He pursued his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from University of Iowa Tippie School of Management during his clinical training at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. He recently graduated the Certified Physician Executive (CPE) program from the American Association for Physician Leadership (AAPL).
Dr. Mathur is an active member of several medical societies and holds leading roles in organizations such as Society for the Advancement of Blood Management (SABM), where he is on Board of Directors, Chair of the SABM Membership and Mentorship Committee, and a member of Scientific Committee and Finance Committee. At the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB), Dr. Mathur is team leader for Annual Meeting Education Committee (AMEC), member of Perioperative Accreditation Committee, Pediatric Transfusion Safety Subsection, Hospital-Based Blood Collectors Forum, and Continuing Education Advisory Committee.
As a physician leader, Dr. Mathur is actively and passionately involved in running Transfusion Medicine service (Blood Bank, Apheresis, and Blood Donor Center) at CHLA. Utilizing his interest and training in business management, informatics, and healthcare administration, he strives to provide effective and efficient patient care.
Dr. Mathur's leadership philosophy is based on his values of Trust, Respect, Empathy, and Relationship. Dr. Mathur aspire to be an Enabling Leader and hope to achieve this goal with his leadership style of empowerment and consensus building.
